Gage & Gage was founded in 1955 by DuRelle “Bill” Gage as a manufacturer’s rep company. The first line he represented was Tuttle Press, a manufacturer of printed paper plates, cup & napkins. In 1965 his son, Bob Gage, returned to the states after his 3-year tour with the U.S. Navy and joined his father. The business then went by the name “Bill and Bob Gage”. In 1970, they incorporated under our current name of Gage & Gage, Inc.
In 1965 when Bob joined the business, they were managing a warehouse in Minneapolis for Maryland Paper Box so they could compete with other local box manufacturers on delivery. In the late 1960’s Berwick was one of the manufacturers they represented. 3M “owned” the ribbon business in our territory at that time, so in order to compete they put Berwick’s bows in stock in Minneapolis — a.k.a. “in Bob’s garage”. Even though Bill Gage had been re-distributing gold stretch loops from a location under his desk, the stocking of Berwick bows in their garage was the catalyst that created the Re-Distribution business we see today.
In the fall busy season, Bob could be found in the warehouse pulling orders and has been known to have driven packages to catch a bus, literally. The philosophies of “easy to do business with”, “let us be your warehouse” and “policy is a bad word” have formed us into the company we are today. No job was either too big or too small for anyone, including Bob.
Gage & Gage is an award-winning customer service company due to Bob’s dedication to our customers. In our many years, we have been honored to receive the Superior Customer Service, the Manufacturer’s Representative of the Year, the Master Distributor of the Year, Best New Product, and the Supplier of the Year awards.
Since 2013 Gage & Gage has been owned by Bill Gage’s granddaughter Deborah Gage Schmitz and her husband Dan Schmitz.
